Georgian LGBT community calls off Tbilisi action due to threats
An action planned by the Georgian LGBT community near the Interior Ministry's building in Tbilisi on Monday has been called off, Tbilisi Pride co-leader Giorgi Tabagari told the press.
"We will not hold our action near the Interior Ministry's building due to threats to members of our organization," Tabagari said.
"Yet we will not cancel the Dignity March," he said.
Dozens of radicals gathered near the Interior Ministry's building on Monday morning to prevent the "amoral" event.
The Georgian Patriarchate made a statement on Sunday, saying that "it is unacceptable to promote sodomy." At the same time, the Patriarchate asked citizens to abstain from violence against LGBT community members.
