Poroshenko, Trudeau discuss positions ahead of G7 summit

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a telephone conversation discussed further consolidation of Ukraine's support at the G7 level and also agreed on positions ahead of the G7 summit, the presidential press service has reported.

The sides coordinated their positions ahead of the G7 summit, which will be held in Charlevoix, Canada, on June 8-9.

"They discussed further consolidation of Ukraine's support at the G7 level both in the issue of restoring its territorial integrity and strengthening the sanctions policy due to ongoing Russian aggression, and in support of the reform efforts of the Ukrainian president," the report says.

Poroshenko informed Trudeau about the development of the situation in Donbas and continuing violations of the Minsk agreements by Russia, as well as Moscow's provoking tension in the Azov Sea.

In addition, the sides emphasized the importance of deploying a UN-mandated peacekeeping force to Donbas, as well as the need to exert further pressure on Russia to ensure the release of all illegally held Ukrainian political prisoners.

The leaders of the two countries welcomed the launch a direct flights between Kyiv and Toronto from June 6.
