Juncker in Tbilisi pledges EU support for Georgia's territorial integrity

Georgia has always been a part of Europe and the European Union will protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said at an Independence Day ceremony in central Tbilisi on Saturday.

"We will always protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, of its legitimate borders," Juncker said.

"Georgia is a country which has always been a part of Europe. A new chapter now begins in our relationship," he said.

On Saturday Georgia marks the 100th anniversary since declaring independence and the foundation of the first Georgian democratic republic.

The festivities are also attended by the presidents of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, Finland and Armenia.
