Gas transit to Europe via Nord Stream 2 to cost almost twice as low as via Ukraine
Moscow expects final decisions on the Nord Stream 2 project would be adopted on the basis of its obvious economic benefit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"Commercial benefit, economic benefit is absolutely obvious. I am confident that these considerations will guide final decisions of the countries neighboring on Germany," Lavrov said at a breakfast meeting with members of Russia's and Germany's business communities.
"[We've] mentioned Nord Stream 2, with regards to which the federal chancellor has a clear stance, and there is a stance of a whole range of other countries, whose companies see exclusively commercial and useful sense of this project. But it is important to remind to those trying to derail [the project] that the length of the route from Yamal to Germany is 2 kilometers less than [the one] where the current transit goes via Ukraine. And the price of transit will also be almost twice as low," he said.
