Poroshenko welcomes adoption of new sanctions package against Russia by U.S. Senate
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has welcomed the adoption by the United States Congress of a new package of sanctions against Russia.
"Grateful for the support by the U.S. Congress of a new package of sanctions against Russia. This is a resolute message of unity and solidarity in support of Ukraine by the American parliament," Poroshenko wrote on his Facebook page on Friday.
"I believe in the U.S. unwavering position as regards fair and inevitable punishment of the aggressor!" he said.
As reported, on Tuesday, the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress voted for a bill providing for additional sanctions against Russia, as well as sanctions against Iran and the DPRK. In fact, it deprives the president of the opportunity to independently abolish anti-Russian sanctions.
"Some 419 congressmen voted "for", three opposed. Voting took place according to a procedure providing for the support of at least two thirds of the members of the Chamber (290 out of 435).
