Participants in Contact Group on Ukraine agree not to shell Donetsk water purification plant's area - OSCE
The Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine gave particular attention to the Donetsk water purification plant at a meeting on Wednesday, the OSCE's Special Envoy to the Trilateral Contact Group Martin Sajdik said.
The sides agreed not to conduct shelling in the area of the Donetsk water purification plant and to clear it from mines, Sajdik said at a press conference in Minsk.
According to the Ukrainian side, following the shelling on February 24, the water purification plant stopped operations due to the damage to the chlorine supply pipe and the major elements of the facility. Emergency repair works cannot be carried out for six days already owing to the absence of security guarantees.
Meanwhile, on February 28, Boris Gryzlov, Russia's envoy to the Trilateral Contact Group on the settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine, called on the Ukrainian authorities, "insistently demanding [that they] guarantee safe and smooth operation of the Donetsk water purification plant."
