Over 700 pigs to be killed at Mayak farm in Poltava region after ASF outbreak
Two pigs have died at Mayak LLC (Sosnivka, Poltava region).
The press service of Ukraine's State Service for Food Safety and Consumers' Rights Protection reported that the examination of the selected sample of biological material diagnosed African swine fever (ASF).
Mayak LLC breeds 723 pigs.
Measures are being taken to localize the disease on the site of the outbreak and prevent the spread of ASF pathogens.
The press service said that since early 2016, a total of 72 ASF cases have been recorded in Ukraine.
The ASF virus is the causative agent of ASF. The virus causes a hemorrhagic fever with high mortality rates in pigs, but persistently infects its natural hosts, warthogs, bush pigs and soft ticks of the Ornithodoros genus, without any visible symptoms. There is currently no vaccine against ASF.
