People's Front asks Lutsenko to refer investigation of Yanukovych's assets recovery case to NABU
People's Front faction of Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada has referred to Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko with the initiative to suggest the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) to investigate the case of [ex-President Viktor] Yanukovych's assets recovery.
"We appeal to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine to refer the case to NABU and confirm the credibility that the Verkhovna Rada gave to this newly created agency on corruption fighting," Head of the People's Front faction Maksym Burbak told reporters in the parliament's lobby on Friday.
He recalled that his faction insisted on the adoption of the law on special confiscation, which could return the money stolen by Yanukovych to the state budget and use them for improving the defense capabilities of Ukraine, but the law has never been adopted.
Burbak believes that the time shouldn't be lost. "The money arrested by Yatseniuk's government are on accounts in Ukrgasbank, Ukreximbank and Oschadbank. If we don't return them to the Ukrainian budget until the end of the year, they could be released and returned to Yanukovych," Burbak said.
Faction leader hopes that NABU will do everything "to return the money stolen by Yanukovych regime to the state."
