The population of Kazakhstan's capital Astana has reached one million people.
"It is with great pleasure that I would like to announce that the millionth resident of Astana was born to the Mukhamedyarov family today. Now Astana is a city with one million residents. I congratulate you!" Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said during a ceremony to raise the state flag and present officers' epaulettes to cadets on Monday.
Astana became the second Kazakh city after Almaty to have a population of one million.
