Some 529 people (including 308 children) have applied to Izmail District Hospital in Odesa region with a provisional diagnosis of acute gastroenterocolitis on June 16-21.
"As of 7 a.m. on June 22, some 239 people (including 111 children) have been hospitalized in Izmail. Two hundred and ninety patients (including 197 children) were discharged from hospitals (for outpatient care)," the press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported.
The emergency service has prepared 55 beds at Izmail School No. 9 in case the situation grows worse. Experts of the sanitary epidemiological service are taking relevant measures. Preliminary reason for the disease distribution is consumption of poor quality water.
Laboratory tests showed that people in Izmail poisoned with infection caused by fecal contaminated water following heavy rains, Izmail Mayor Andriy Abramchenko said.
