Ukraine's president stands for holding consultations with intl partners due to threat of Russia's placing nuclear weaponry in Crimea
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stands for holding consultations with international partners regarding the threat of Russia's deploying nuclear weapons in the occupied Crimea.
"We are confident these consultations should be carried out to avoid nuclear weapons deployment," the president said at a press conference in Washington.
The head of state noted Ukraine was concerned over possible relocation of Russian nuclear weaponry because under the international law Ukraine bears full responsibility for the deployment of nuclear elements in its territory.
"Since Crimea is a Ukrainian territory, we are very concerned about the possible deployment of nuclear weapons and, in accordance with information from our intelligence agencies, Russia plans to do this. We demand very coherent and effective steps on the part of the international community to prevent the drastic deterioration of the security situation in the Black Sea region due to placing nuclear weapons in Crimea," Poroshenko said.
