Criminal case opened against Savchenko's sister in Russia for contempt of court
A defense lawyer for Ukrainian pilot and MP Nadia Savchenko, Mark Feygin, has said that a criminal case has been opened against his client's sister Vira Savchenko for contempt of court.
"A criminal case against Vira Savchenko has been opened in Russia," Feygin tweeted.
The lawyer posted a scanned copy of a document which states that Vira Savchenko expressed "clear contempt of court and [contempt for] the judicial authorities of the Russian Federation" by verbally insulted the presiding judge.
Ilya Novikov, a lawyer for Nadiya Savchenko, said on Twitter Vera Savchenko is expected to be prosecuted for contempt of a Chechen court. "We are taking measures. No panic," Novikov said.
