Steinmeier calls for withdrawal of light, heavy weapons in Donbas
German Foreign Minister Frank Walter-Steinmeier has called on the sides of the conflict in eastern Ukraine to reach agreements on the withdrawal of light and heavy weapons from the contact line.
"Today we will give attention to security issues. We believe it is important to reach agreements not only on the withdrawal of weapons of caliber less than 100 mm, but also heavy weapons," Steinmeier said in a statement issues before the meeting between the foreign ministers of the Normandy format countries.
He also expressed satisfaction with the way the ceasefire regime is observed in Donbas.
The German minister also said he is hoping that progress will be made on humanitarian issues in today's meeting.
The "Normandy four" on the situation in Donbas comprises Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France.
