Zelenskyy, Steinmeier discuss Ukraine's defense needs, regional partnerships development

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier discussed the security situation in Ukraine and the development of regional partnerships in Berlin.

"The key topic of the talks was the security situation in Ukraine and its needs against the backdrop of constant Russian strikes on the energy network and active military operations at the front," the presidential press service said.

During the meeting, they also discussed the development of regional partnerships, in particular with frontline regions, and agreed to continue to do everything to further develop the network of such cooperation.

"The German President noted the success of his patronage over the restoration of Chernihiv region. The federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern supported a number of projects, including the initiative of First Lady Olena Zelenska to set up shelters in educational institutions in Chernihiv region," the press release notes.

Steinmeier also assured of unwavering support for Ukraine and the solidarity of the German people with Ukrainians.

The head of the Ukrainian state thanked Germany for its European leadership in the amount of assistance provided to Ukraine, primarily in the defense sector. He said it is important to maintain it at the same high level next year.
