One member of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has been killed and several more injured in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) zone on Saturday, Oleksandr Motuzianyk, a spokesman in the Ukrainian presidential administration for ATO matters, has said.
"As a result of the hostilities in the past 24 hours, we have lost one our soldier, another ten sustained various injuries," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Sunday.
Hostilities involving heavy weaponry resumed in the Mariupol area, Sector "M" spokesman Yaroslav Chepurny told Interfax-Ukraine later.
"This morning they started firing 152- and 122-millimeter cannons, as well as mortars against our positions near Orlivske, Vodiane and Lebedynske. At this point, the shelling continues. There has been one armed clash. There are casualties among our marines, the information is being clarified," the spokesman said.
"Our positions have not been shelled from such a large caliber in a long time," Chepurny said.
"There was an armed clash in Shyrokyne. Details are so far being clarified," the spokesman added.
