Ex-Aidar battalion commander, MP Melnychuk's supporters pay UAH 365,000 bail

Bail of UAH 365,000 has been paid for a former commander of the Aidar volunteer battalion and current independent MP Serhiy Melnychuk, which was required under a ruling of Pechersky District of Kyiv, Melnychuk's defense lawyer, Yuriy Melnyk, told reporters in parliament on Tuesday.

"Many have donated UAH 1,000, UAH 2,000, UAH 5,000, or UAH 10,000, a deposit of 365,000 for Ukrainian MP Serhiy Melnychuk was introduced as early as on Friday. This [money] was collected by his supporters, people, who care about him," the lawyer said.

On June 11, Pechersky District Court ruled to set bail of UAH 300,000 as a preventive measure.

As reported, on June 3, the Verkhovna Rada granted the Prosecutor General's request on prosecuting Melnychuk. At the same time, the Rada objected to the prosecutor general's request on detaining and then arresting Melnychuk.
