Uzbekistan schedules presidential elections for March 29, 2015
The Uzbek Central Elections Commission has scheduled presidential elections for March 29, 2015, the commission press service said on Friday.
The presidential election campaign is due to begin on December 26, the commission said in a resolution.
Pursuant to the constitutional law "On the Next Elections of Representative Power Bodies and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan" passed in March 2012, the presidential elections were delayed from late 2014 until 2015 (the first Sunday after 90 days since the Central Elections Commission summed up outcomes of the elections of the Legislative Chamber of the National Parliament).
Uzbekistan elected the Legislative Chamber of its parliament on December 21. The voter turnout neared 90%.
