Lavrov: NATO membership aspiration of Kyiv endangers European security
The very idea of Ukraine's accession to NATO jeopardizes the people of that country and the entire system of European security, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"The very idea of Ukraine's aspiration for NATO membership is dangerous for the Ukrainian people, because there is no unity on this subject, and for European security," Lavrov said in a program of Rossiya 1 television anchor Vladimir Solovyov on Thursday.
The minister reminded the audience that all member countries of the European security system had committed to indivisible security.
"No one shall ensure one's security by infringing security of the others and no one shall move the dividing lines inherited from the Cold War era," the minister stated.
