Authorities confirm troop redeployment to Donetsk

Troops in Donetsk are being redeployed, according to the official Web site of the city mayor's office and city council.

"We ask city residents to remain calm as this is a standard redeployment of military forces," according to their statement issued on Friday.

Meanwhile, sounds of gunfire and explosions were heard in the city in the first half of the day today and at 1330 the situation in the city remained tense, it said.

A local news outlet, Donbas News, earlier showed photographic evidence confirming reports of streets being closed in northern Donetsk. Earlier, antiaircraft gun mounts and tanks were seen moving in file through the city's main street and occupying combat positions.
