Red Cross mission determined to stay in Ukraine - Ukrainian Defense Ministry
An International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission will continue to work in Ukraine, even despite the death of its employee, the Swiss national Laurent DuPasquier, in Donetsk on October 2, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry quoted ICRC representatives as saying at a meeting with Deputy Defense Minister Petro Mekhed on Thursday.
Mekhed said the ministry was willing to provide its assistance in transporting DuPasquier's body to Switzerland, the Defense Ministry said on Thursday.
It was also noted at the meeting that the development of operational cooperation at all levels "is currently among the main preconditions for efficient implementation of the Red Cross mandate in the conflict area."
Mekhed reaffirmed Ukraine's determination to contribute to the safety of ICRC workers in the conflict area, noting that the Ukrainian armed forces "have always acted and will act in line with international humanitarian law."
