Euromaidan wins Lech Walesa freedom prize in Poland
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko together with representatives of Euromaidan have received a freedom prize awarded to the Maidan activists by the Lech Walesa foundation in Gdansk, Poland, the press service of Kyiv City State Administration reported.
"This is an award for millions of Ukrainians who rose to fight for their freedom and their future, for democracy and justice," Klitschko said.
The delegation of Maidan representatives, who attended the award ceremony, included singer Ruslana, Culture Minister Yevhen Nyschuk, Presidential Adviser Olha Bohomolets, journalist and social activist Tetiana Chornovol, Sports Minister Dmytro Bulatov, former commandant of Maidan and former secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Andriy Parubiy, and leader of Svoboda all-Ukrainian Association Oleh Tiahnybok.
During the award ceremony, former Polish President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Walesa said that the world should stand in solidarity with Ukraine.
Euromaidan won the Walesa prize as a movement. The prize of $100,000 has been awarded since 2008.
