EC says Russia will do everything possible to worsen situation in Ukraine with gas supply
Gas could be used by Russia as a weapon, EU Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger has said.
"This is not yet the case, but we believe that Russia will do whatever they can to undermine Ukraine," he said at a meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy on September 25.
At the same time, he did not rule out the possibility that Ukraine could purchase gas from Russia with co-finance from the EU in order to store more gas.
As reported, Berlin hosts on Friday trilateral consultations on gas supplies to Ukraine with the participation of Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Prodan and Oettinger.
