Over 2,700 policemen dismissed in Donetsk, Luhansk regions - ministry
A total of 2,717 police officers have been dismissed in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and this process will continue, Anton Heraschenko, an advisor to the Ukrainian interior minister, has said.
"In all, 2,717 people have been removed from the police ranks. This is far from being all, this is just the beginning," Heraschenko said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.
In both regions, 1,490 policemen did not fight terrorism and refused to obey orders to redeploy to other cities and continue the fight, he said. Yet another 1,227 officers have quit of their own free will. The two regions have 23,026 police personnel in total.
Also, 40 criminal inquiries have been launched against police staff in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, according to the Interior Ministry.
