Kyiv agreed in Geneva to constitutional reform and amnesty for protesters – Deschytsia
Ukraine made a compromise at the talks in Geneva on the issues of constitutional reform and amnesty for protesters in the eastern regions of the country, Acting Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Deschytsia has said.
"We said that we've started discussing constitutional reform, involving a large number of people, including representatives of different regions, as our Russian partners insisted," he said at a briefing on Friday, when asked what concessions Ukraine made at these negotiations.
He also said that the Ukrainian side had agreed to grant an amnesty for pro-Russian activists in eastern regions.
"The second question is the question of amnesty. We agreed to an amnesty for those who voluntarily lay down weapons or vacate the buildings that have been seized," Deschytsia said.
He also added that, on the basis of these agreements, people must first surrender their weapons and leave buildings and then an amnesty for them would be applied.
When asked what Russia sacrificed, Deschytsia said: "It's necessary to ask Russia itself what it agreed to."
