Defense Ministry denies sending troops to Kyiv to disperse Maidan
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has denied the information that troops are being sent to Kyiv to disperse the Maidan.
The Defense Ministry said the troops are being moved between military units to tighten security in ammunition warehouses and other military facilities. "Due to the exacerbation of the sociopolitical situation in the country, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are tightening security at military arsenals, bases, warehouses, and other military facilities to prevent ammunition and military property from being stolen from warehouses," the Defense Ministry press service told Interfax-Ukraine.
According to the report, the Defense Ministry plans to tighten security at warehouses of highly mobile airborne forces.
"That is, the information on troops being sent to disperse the Maidan is untrue," the Defense Ministry has reported.
Ukraine's former Defense Minister Anatoliy Hrytsenko earlier said on Facebook that acting Defense Minister Pavlo Lebedev had ordered sending troops to Kyiv from other regions.
