Ukrainians abroad to press foreign governments to impose sanctions on Ukrainian officials – UWC secretary

Ukrainians abroad will continue to press for the governments of their countries to impose sanctions on the Ukrainian government officials who suspended European inregration process in Ukraine, Secretary General of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) Stefan Romaniw has said.

"We'll urge our governments to recognize them [the Ukrainian authorities] as personae non grata," he said at the briefing at the press center of the National Resistance Headquarters in Kyiv on Wednesday.

According to him, the govermments of the countries that host the real estate of Ukrainian officials should analyze how they bought this property.

"And if it turns out that the property was bought with dirty money, then the governments must properly respond to this," he said.

Romaniw said that the UWC "will insist on the non-recognition of the election results in five problem districts," which took place on December 15.

The secretary stressed that evidence recorded by observers from the congress indicates mass vote rigging.

"There were an even greater number [of falsifications] than at the parliamentary elections in 2012," Romaniv said. He said that 155 observers from the UWC monitored the elections last Sunday.

The opposition should have paid more attention to these elections, Romaniv said, as "the ruling party worked well" to get what they wanted.
