US diplomat says removing Klitschko from presidential race can overshadow elections in 2015
Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor at the U.S. Department of State Thomas O. Melia has said he believes that the adoption of the law introducing amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine on the accounting and registration of taxpayers may cast a shadow on the presidential election campaign in Ukraine in 2015.
"It could overshadow the election process. It would be a pity if certain candidates are thrown out of the race," he said in an interview with Ukraine's Channel 5 on Thursday evening.
The law introducing amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine concerning the accounting and registration of taxpayers, which was approved on October 24, supported the amendment, stating that "if a person has the right for a permanent residence in a foreign country, such a person is considered to be one who does not live in Ukraine."
UDAR described the adoption of this law as a provocation against UDAR faction leader Vitali Klitschko.
The next presidential elections in Ukraine will be held in 2015.
