Opposition expects ombudsperson to request Tymoshenko's pardon
The Batkivschyna faction in parliament still insists that Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Valeria Lutkovska appeal to President Viktor Yanukovych with the request to pardon Ukraine's imprisoned former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
"She [the ombudsperson] should appeal to the president and request the release of Yulia Tymoshenko. Our whole faction is demanding this," Batkivschyna MP Oleksandra Kuzhel said at a morning plenary meeting of the Ukrainian parliament on Wednesday.
An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that according to the MP, Lutkovska, while serving as ombudsperson, "is not making use of her right to defend people."
Kuzhel also said that Lutkovska's oath taking procedure in parliament was illegitimate.
"Our faction today again confirms the illegality of the appointment of Mrs. Lutkovska," she said.
