President: task of income ministry not to control, but to provide services

The goal of the newly created Income and Tax Ministry of Ukraine is not to control, but provide services to companies and business, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"When we made the decision [to create the ministry], we pinned hopes on the fact that the merger of a large number of supervision and regulating functions will give a chance to the minister to find a balance between [providing a service and] fulfilling functions to ensure there are payments to the budget," the president said at a meeting of the Committee on Economic Reforms in Kyiv on Tuesday.

He said that the rules for businessmen should be created in such a way that the fulfillment of liabilities for tax payment is as convenient as possible.

"We should be partners for business and provide services: not control, but provide services. We should try to achieve this form of work," the president said.

As reported, on December 24, 2012, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych signed decrees creating the new Income and Tax Ministry on the basis of the State Customs Service and the State Tax Service.
