Compromise in situation with jailed Tymoshenko, Lutsenko should be found promptly, says Yanukovych
A compromise in the situation with jailed former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and former Interior Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko jas to be found as soon as possible, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.
"Speaking about the painful issue of Tymoshenko and Lutsenko, I would like to say once again, to confirm that we understand very well that the issue has to be settled in the legal context," the president told journalists following a trilateral meeting with his Polish and Slovak counterparts in Wisla (Poland) on Thursday.
Yanukovych said that Ukraine understands the EU's concerns about the issue.
"We understand the difficulties and concerns of our friends and we realize that reaching a compromise and searching for solutions is an important task for the near future," Yanukovych said.
