Georgian ambassador completes diplomatic mission to Ukraine

Ambassador of Georgia to Ukraine Grigol Katamadze is completing his diplomatic mission to Ukraine, he has said in an interview with the Segodnya daily newspaper.

Asked who would replace him on the post, the diplomat said: "A political decision has been taken, and it has a symbolic meaning to me. It will be Mikhail Ukleba, who 20 years ago, while holding the post of first deputy foreign minister of Georgia, convinced me to transfer from the Interior Ministry to the Foreign Ministry."

Katamadze praised such a decision of the Georgian government, as Ukleba is a professional diplomat and a good person, according to him.

Speaking about further plans, Katamadze said that he was finishing his diplomatic career.

"I'm finishing my diplomatic career and I made this decision consciously. Of course, 20 years is a long time. But I don't want to hold a position that depends on the signature of one person," he said.

According to Segodnya, January 22, 2013 is the last working day of Grigol Katamadze at the post of the ambassador of Georgia to Ukraine.

He was appointed to the post for the first time in 2000 and held it until 2007. On January 1, 2009, he became Georgia's ambassador to Ukraine for a second time.
