Georgia will not mark Rose Revolution anniversary

Another holiday will be marked in Georgia this year instead of the Rose Revolution anniversary for the first time since 2003.

The government led by Mikheil Saakashvili came to power in Georgia following the resignation of President Eduard Shevardnadze on November 23, 2003.

This date has been marked officially as the Rose Revolution anniversary, but this year it will see only festivities celebrating St. Giorgi Day, the Georgian prime minister's press service reported.

No events have been included in President Saakashvili's agenda, either, the press service said.

However, some Georgian users of the Facebook social networking site have called on people to gather in Tbilisi's Rose Revolution Square at 1600 local time to mark the 2003 events.
