Court sentences man who beat up Oleksandra Popova to 15 years in prison
Mykolaiv Court of Appeals on Wednesday partially satisfied a petition lodged by prosecutors and sentenced Oleksandr Kosinov, who had beaten up Oleksandra Popova, to 15 years in prison, according to a statement posted on the Web site of the TSN (Television News Service).
The court partially granted the request of prosecutors and added two years to the convict's term for attempting to murder the girl. Kosinov was also sentenced to two more years in prison for stealing a mobile phone of the victim.
"As a result of the partial addition of sentences, the total period of Kosinov's imprisonment is 15 years," reads the statement.
The judges also considered the materials of the case concerning the health of Kosinov and his son Mykyta, born in 2008.
As reported, on September 17, 2012, Leninsky District Court in Mykolaiv found 22-year-old Kosinov guilty of attempting to murder an 18-year-old resident of the city, Popova, and sentenced him to 12 years in prison. Prosecutors demanded that the defendant be sentenced to 15 years in prison and filed an appeal against the court's decision.
On March 9, Kosinov severely beat up a young girl, Popova, in a park in Mykolaiv. The girl spent 72 days in a coma. She is still undergoing medical treatment.
