Two opposition activists beaten by Georgian police
Two activists of the Georgian Dream opposition coalition, Inga Beriashvili and Shota Jokhadze, who were beaten by patrolmen in Akhasheni, Gurjaani district in Kakheti, eastern Georgia, were transferred to the Tbilisi Catastrophe Medicine Center on Monday morning, the Kakheti information center said.
The coalition's Gurjaani staff member Kako Begashvili said that Beriashvili and Jokhadze were beaten by patrolmen while they were distributing Georgian Dream badges.
"About 30 policemen attacked them and beat them with clubs. The Gurjaani medical center provided first aid, but they had to be transferred to the Tbilisi Emergency Medical Center in the morning," Begashvili said.
Georgian Dream is the main rival of the ruling United National Movement in the parliamentary election of October 1.
