Zelenskyy believes that those who invented Budapest Memo should be put in jail

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that those who came up with the Budapest Memorandum should be imprisoned.

“We were under pressure of the U.S. and Russia for Ukraine to give them [nuclear weapons] up. These two powers were exerting pressure. These two states negotiated to ensure that Ukraine does not have nuclear weapons. Ukraine agreed … Now we just need to find these people, and we just need to put in jail all of those who frankly invented all this,” Zelenskyy said in an interview with Lex Fridman, published on the YouTube channel of the President’s Office of Ukraine on Sunday.

The President said that after the occupation of parts of Donbas and Crimea, Ukraine sent letters three times over the course of several years to all members of the Budapest Memorandum regarding consultations in case of violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity.

“Everyone should be in consultation. Everyone must come. Everyone must meet urgently, USA, Britain, Russia, France, China. Did anyone come, you ask? No. Did anyone reply to these letters, official letters? They are all recorded by diplomats. Did anyone conduct consultations? No, and why not? They didn’t give a fuck,” Zelenskyy noted.

He added that the other guarantors of the Budapest Memorandum did not give a damn about Ukraine, Ukrainians and these security guarantees.
