Zelenskyy: Budapest Memorandum hasn't worked a single day over 30 years
The Budapest Memorandum turns 30 years old on Thursday, and this document has not worked a single day over this period, as mere promises for security are not enough, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said on Thursday.
"Today is the 30th anniversary of the Budapest Memorandum. Ten years of war. This document has not worked for a single day. Therefore, everyone in the world will now know that just the signature of any state, any assurances or promises for security is not enough," he said in a video message.
The head of state said effective guarantees are required, particularly real alliance and a realistic foundation of security within the country, as well as weapons to defend and deter the enemy.
"And unity to help withstand even the most difficult moments. We are working on each of the security elements," Zelenskyy said.
