Zelenskyy calls on EU leaders to impose sanctions against Rosatom
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has noted significant progress in the fight against the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation, and also called on EU leaders to put pressure on other parts of the Russian economy, in particular, to impose sanctions against Rosatom.
“Sanctions against Russia are being intensified, and this year we have made significant progress in the fight against its shadow tanker fleet - we must prevent Putin from using it to finance the war and remove these old ships from European and international waters to prevent oil spills. We must also put pressure on other parts of the Russian economy and energy exports, including the imposition of sanctions against Rosatom, another instrument of Russian aggression,” Zelenskyy said, addressing EU leaders at a meeting of the European Council.
He also stressed that it is necessary to continue to increase the production of weapons and expand the industrial potential of Europe. The Head of State thanked all the partners who are already investing in Ukrainian defense production, in particular, drones and artillery, as well as those who maintain strong defense budgets.
“This will be crucial next year as well - arms supplies, increased production and increased sanctions against Russia in order to push its leadership towards diplomacy. Europe must remain strong,” Zelenskyy stressed.
