Forests of Ukraine halves fuel costs in 2023, saving about UAH 1 bln

State-owned enterprise Forests of Ukraine in 2023 almost halved fuel consumption compared to 2021, to 16,800 tonnes, saving about UAH 1 billion, the director general of the enterprise, Yuriy Bolokhovets, has said.

"In 2021, the enterprise of the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine purchased 34,700 tonnes of fuel; in 2023, our company already spent approximately 16,800 tonnes. It is clear that the comparison is relative. Not all state-owned forestry enterprises are included in the Forests of Ukraine, and the volume of timber harvesting has partially decreased. However, the savings are obvious," he wrote on Facebook.

According to him, such indicators were achieved thanks to centralization and increased control.

"A director of the branch (forestry enterprise) no longer defines the standards in a way that is convenient for him. Standards that are uniform for all have been approved. "Tricks" involving the write-off of fuel for equipment that in fact did not work are promptly identified and severely punished," Bolokhovets said.

The director general of Forests of Ukraine said that each inspection of a branch by employees of the Security Department includes an analysis of how and where the equipment was used, and the result of its work.

SOE Forests of Ukraine also plans to introduce online monitoring systems for the movement of special and cargo equipment. An ERP system that automates data accounting and processing is at the stage of preparation for procurement.

In addition, the state-owned enterprise purchases fuel mainly centrally through the ProZorro platform. The price is lower than the price at a gas station (before the reform, some forestry enterprises managed to purchase 30% more expensive).

"Taking into account removing the sector from the shadow and transparent fuel purchases, up to UAH 1 billion have been saved," Bolokhovets said.
