During the last week of January, pork prices fell by 6.9% and reached UAH 51.8 per kg, while at the end of the first ten days of January, the weekly weakening of prices exceeded 9%, the Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine reported.
"Although last week's trading was intense and the pressure on purchase prices remained at a high level, suppliers of live pork noted some activity among the procurers. The latter were more interested in the available volumes for sale, old counterparties tried to resume cooperation, and sometimes calls were received from new ones. Shipment of reserved batches in most pig farms this week there were no disruptions or transfers," the association said.
A number of representatives of the meat processing industry saw that sales showed the first signs of industry recovery after a lull in the first half of January. Some of them believe that trade at the beginning of the year corresponds to traditional seasonal trends. Taking this into account, producers do not expect the weakening of prices to continue, and some expect their recovery, the industry association said.
