Explosion in Baumgarten to result in temporary fall in gas transit across Ukraine via Slovakia
An explosion at a gas hub in Baumgarten (Austria) would result in a temporary decline in gas transit across Ukraine via Slovakia, the press service of public joint-stock company Ukrtransgaz has reported.
"Import of natural gas from Slovakia is in line with the schedule in the daily mode of 22 million cubic meters. A slight decline in gas supply from Hungary is expected. The restriction of gas imports from the EU or its temporary halt would be compensated to Ukrainian consumers thanks to an increase in pumping of gas from Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities," the company said.
Ukrtransgaz said that the company is actively cooperating with European operators, Gazprom and ENTSOG to quickly settle the emergency and stabilize gas transportation to European consumers.
In turn, Slovakian gas transport system operator Eustream said that gas transportation via Baumgarten is temporarily limited, although the other interconnection points of Eustream are not affected and available for gas transmission without limitation.
