No threat of rolling blackouts in autumn and winter
There is no threat of rolling blackouts in the autumn and winter period, Ukrenergo Head Vsevolod Kovalchuk has said at the Open Energy Week forum in Kyiv.
"There won't be rolling blackouts in the autumn-winter period. Scenarios have been developed to cover the deficit," he said.
At the same time, according to the head of Ukrenergo, the situation with coal reserves at thermal power plants (TPP) is currently unsatisfactory.
"Some 400,000 tonnes of stock separate us from the critical deficit. The burning rate is 250,000 tonnes per month," he said.
Kovalchuk stressed the work of the energy system in the autumn-winter period would depend substantially on the efforts of energy companies to purchase coal.
"Passing the winter will depend on how TPPs will provide themselves with fuel," he said.
Kovalchuk noted in case of coal shortage fuel oil blocks could be used, other measures would be taken, and only in the last instance Ukrenergo could resort to controlled consumption restriction.
