Parliament rejects bill from IMF list on lending promotion
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has rejected a bill on promotion of lending (No. 4529), the adoption of which was stipulated in the memorandum with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada committee on fiscal policy and banking activities Ruslan Demchak, when presenting the document in the parliament, said the adoption of this legislative act, among other things, is aimed at harmonizing national and international legislation.
Among the innovations of the bill is enhancing protection of the banks' rights in getting as collateral property built without proper permits.
The parliament committee offered passing as a basis bill No. 4529, but even the proposal to send it back for revision got support from only 217 deputies with the required minimum being 226 votes.
When discussing the bill, MP Oleksandra Kuzhel (the Batkivschyna faction) said the bill is lobbied by bankers.
"It restricts the rights of borrowers and unnecessarily expands the rights of creditor banks," she said.
