Poroshenko: 2016-2018 should be years of road construction

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) has defined road repairs and construction as one of the priorities of budget financing.

"We have a common position: 2016, 2017 and 2018 should be the years of road construction. This is what we must show as one of the priorities we have today," the presidential press service said citing Poroshenko.

According to the president, compared with 2013 funding for road repairs and construction in most regions increased by 10 times.

Poroshenko also stressed the importance of continuing decentralization in the country, which greatly enhances the development of local communities.

"I am confident the principled line on decentralization should be pursued. First reports from local administrations prove that responsibility of local authorities increases when we convey rights and financial resources," he said.

According to the president, statistics of major cities shows that they collected more funds in the first half of 2016 than over the entire year of 2014. This applies to Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Odesa and most of the regional centers.
