Turkish Stream in conflict with Ukraine and whole Europe's interests - Klimkin
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said that resumption of contacts between Russia and Turkey would not worsen Ukrainian-Turkish relations, but the resumption of the Turkish Stream project is in conflict of the interests of not only Ukraine, but also the whole Europe.
"Economic cooperation between Turkey and Russia in many areas will be restored. At least one project being discussed now is in conflict with the interests of not only Ukraine, but also Europe. This is Turkish Stream [the gas pipeline from Russia to the European part of Turkey and then to the targeted markets of Central and Southern Europe]," he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
He said that Ukraine accepts European rules under the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement and liabilities as part of the Energy Community. In turn, Russia is trying to bypass Ukraine and create a gas hub in Turkey which would not be in line with European rules.
Klimkin said that contacts with Russia would not worsen Ukrainian-Turkish relations for sure.
