DTEK invests over $5 bln in heat generation, clean energy, coal production

DTEK energy company has invested almost $2.5 billion in the coal sector over the period of its operation, as well as $1.1 billion in developing heat generating companies and some $400 million in clean energy, DTEK CEO Maksym Tymchenko has said.

"Over the last 10 years we have invested over $5 billion," he said in an interview with the Ukrainian weekly newspaper Dzerkalo Tyzhnia.

He said that the company had to suspend investment into the gas production sector for a while, due to the unfavorable regulatory policy of the state and high royalties for commercial gas production in effect during 2015.

"We planned to reach production of 2 billion cubic meters of gas, but we saw last year that this would be impossible. We still regard this business important and strategic. We've invested over UAH 2 billion in it since 2013. We will develop it and invest in it in the future," Tymchenko said.

He said that gas production by private joint-stock company Naftogazvydobuvannia belonged to DTEK and totaled around 500 million cubic meters in 2013, some 750 million in 2014 and 1.3 billion cubic meters in 2015.
