Kyiv, Riga holding consultations to increase shipping by Zubr container train - Yatseniuk
Ukraine and Latvia have started technical consultations on the Zubr railway project, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said.
"In the first half of next year Ukraine and Latvia will hold [a meeting of] the intergovernmental trade and economic commission. We are to do everything [possible] to increase the potential of the Zubr transport project. Technical consultations have been commenced, and their result will be the signing of the agreement between Ukraine and Latvia on the increase of shipping under the Zubr project," he said at a press conference after a meeting with Prime Minister of Latvia Laimdota Straujuma in Riga on Friday.
The Zubr container train runs on the following route: Baltic States-Belarus-Ukraine, and is a joint project of the Estonian, Latvian, Belarusian and Ukrainian railways and freight shippers.
The train carries containers of 20, 40 and 45 feet, including special-purpose containers.
The project facilitates shipments of freight to Scandinavia, the Caucasian countries, and Turkey.
