Building of extra power supply lines to Khmelnytsky, Rivne NPPs to be finished by winter – minister

Building of facilities which will unblock 1,000 MW of capacity of Khmelnytsky and Rivne nuclear power plants (NPPs) is on schedule, and will be finished by winter, Energy and Coal Industry Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn has said.

"Yesterday [on September 10] we held a meeting at Ukrenergo. Everyone has confirmed that everything is going on schedule. Before the heating season the line would start operating, and we add 1,000 MW," he told reporters in Kyiv on September 11.

According to national energy company Ukrenergo, the readiness of the following facilities was discussed at the meeting: 750 kV Khmelnytsky NPP-Chornobyl NPP overhead power transmission line to the 750/330 kV Kyivska substation, the Rivne NPP-Kyivska 750 kV overhead power transmission line, reconstruction of the 750 kV switchyard at Rivne NPP and Khmelnytsky NPP, and construction of the 330 kV Novokyivska-Pivnichna overhead power transmission line to the 750/330 kV Kyivska substation.

In addition, the participants of the meeting also discussed the problems related to the allocation of land parcels for infrastructure.

Along with an increase of the power transmission capacity of Rivne NPP and Khmelnytsky NPP, work to increase the capacity of Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP by 1,600 MW, Zaporizhia NPP by 700 MW is being carried out. The projects are scheduled to be completed by 2017.
