Ukrzaliznytsia plans to haul cargo from China to Europe by Viking train

Viking trains will transport goods from China to Europe, according to the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia.

A corresponding protocol was signed during a meeting of the heads of railways of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Ukraine on the issues of forming competitive tariff conditions for cargo transportation in the direction of Asia-Europe-Asia in Odesa on September 11, 2015.

"The current state of Ukrainian railways has sufficient reserves and allows for safely transport cargo and passengers. Today, within the process of reforming the railway industry of Ukraine, we are transferring to European models of governance that allow us to more qualitatively form tariffs and organize the transportation process. All of this will contribute to the development of Ukraine's transit potential," Acting Ukrzaliznytsia CEO Oleksandr Zavhorodniy said.

He stressed that Ukraine could contribute to the development of transport corridors and reduce the time of freight delivery in any direction.

In addition, railroads are working on the technical issues of rolling stock modernization for container traffic and in conjunction with the Ministry of Infrastructure, amendments will be made to the work of the ferry service.

According to Zavhorodniy, these issues will be resolved within the next two months.
