Jaresko says direct talks with creditors on debt restructuring will start soon
Ukraine's negotiations with private creditors on restructuring the country's debt are being held every day between advisors, and in the near future it is expected that direct talks between the country and creditors will begin, Finance Minister of Ukraine Natalie Jaresko has said.
"We talk to advisors each day and the negotiations between creditors and the debtor are beginning," she said on the sidelines of the 8th Kyiv Security Forum on Friday.
Jaresko said that it is likely that she will be able to disclose the date of the start of direct talks on Monday.
Commenting on the signing of the law on the right of the government to suspend payments on foreign debt by the Ukrainian president, she said that the government still plans to find solutions with creditors.
"It was very important to give this tool to the government, but I hope that we'll reach direct talks very soon, and thus, we reach an agreement constructively and using a fair approach," she said.
Jaresko added that at present, Ukraine continues to service its debts.
