Barroso: Ukraine demonstrates importance of energy supply security on EU agenda

The debates over Ukraine have made the European Union recollect how important it is for each country to reinforce its independence in energy policy sector, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso said.

"At the core of the European Union's energy policy are consumer choice, fairer prices, cleaner energy and security of supply. It is on this sound basis that we are developing our internal energy market. And we have moved a long way towards this aim over the last years," Barroso said.
